Yes, the initial idea was to read it all, but he really hadn't the will. Anyway, he succeded in reading that chapter negligently, with one eyes closed because it was tired (the eye, yep). And that allowed him to know that the main character of the book, doing his weird walk, met a nihilistic girl in a wood. That sounded familiar. Maybe there really was some similarities with his life and the book he was reading. Anyway, time to read the second chapter. But first, something came to his mind: what the cornfield was about? This led him to obtain a bit more interest in reading the second chapter.
